One of the best perks of working at WKU is the two-week holiday shutdown at the end of December. This year it was made even better when our President decided to shutdown a week earlier. Like everyone else, WKU is having budget problems. One of the major issues is energy consumption. The extra week is an effort to save energy and lower our costs. We are also closing down a week in July! Hopefully it saves lots of money so we continue to do it.
Now I just need to figure out what I am going to do for three weeks! Nice problem to have.
President-elect Barack Obama is looking very presidential these days. When he makes an announcement, he is ringed by American flags and stands behind a lectern that has a very presidential-looking placard announcing “The Office of the President-Elect.”
But the props are merely that. Under the Constitution, there is no such thing as the Office of the President-elect. Technically, Obama will not even become the president-elect until the Electoral College convenes after the second Wednesday in December and elects him based on the results of the Nov. 4 general election, as stated in the Constitution.
Much like everyone else probably, shopping for Christmas is quite a pain. My brother Greg is especially difficult to shop for. Last year, I waited up till the last minute to do my shopping. Late to the point that I couldn’t get anything online and have it in time. I drove to Nashville with a friend and could not find anything there. It was hell. I was pretty ugly to be around because of it. So this year I decided to get my shopping done early so I could relax and enjoy the season.
Well I am happy to proclaim I am DONE with Christmas shopping! And yesterday I put my Chirstmas tree up. All that is left is to fill out Christmas cards. It is very relaxing to know I am done!
Oh, and I did not go into a single store. Amazon was my friend!
