Three-week vacation starts today

One of the best perks of working at WKU is the two-week holiday shutdown at the end of December. This year it was made even better when our President decided to shutdown a week earlier. Like everyone else, WKU is having budget problems. One of the major issues is energy consumption. The extra week is an effort to save energy and lower our costs. We are also closing down a week in July! Hopefully it saves lots of money so we continue to do it.

Now I just need to figure out what I am going to do for three weeks! Nice problem to have.

WKU iCalendar Athletic Schedules

For those that follow WKU Athletics, I have created an iCalendar online public calendar. iCalendar, often referred to as iCal, is a standard internet calendar format that enables users to create and share electronic calendars across different computers and different programs. Most calendars (Google Calendar, Yahoo Calendar, Outlook, Apple iCal, etc.) will support an iCal address. Simply go to your calendar (I use and prefer Google Calendar) and use the iCal link below to subscribe to the public calendar.

I maintain this calendar and it will always have the most current WKU Football, Men’s and Women’s Basketball and Baseball schedules. As new schedules are released, I will add them to the calendar and then they will automatically be added to yours. A simple way to make sure you always have WKU schedules on your calendar.

The iCal address is:

Lee goes 22nd to the Magic

MAGIC SELECT COURTNEY LEE IN FIRST ROUND OF NBA DRAFT 2008

Congrats to Courtney Lee! I guess I am a Magics fan, for what that is worth.

NBA Draft Tonight

Of all the professional sports, the NBA has to be my least favorite. I can’t stand most of the player personalities, the playoffs drag on forever and ever, and it is just not a fun style of basketball for me. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE basketball, I’ll just take mine in the college flavor only.

But, tonight I will take an unusual interest in the NBA. For the first time since 1987 (Tellis Frank), WKU could (should) have a first round draft pick in Courtney Lee. Several mock drafts have him going 22nd to the Orlando Magic, with a few mentions of Boston at 30th. He is considered the second-best senior in the draft class and fourth best shooting guard.

Who knows, having a Hilltopper active in the NBA might peak my interest in the league a bit. Anyway, here are some mock drafts and profiles. We’ll find it all out tonight at 6:30 ct on ESPN.
